Dinesh, the identification is very convincing, but I was intrigued to see that this plant is not listed in any Indian sites I could find. Was it growing wild, or was it being cultivated as a medicinal plant?
Great job with identification!

This is an monsoon annual; I found this growing in untended area of lawn of office premises. And I am sure, they are growing in most places in our country; not cultivated for medicinal importance. Looking at its nativity at NPGS / GRIN , it looks like this is an escape from Americas.

Whenever I do not find regional names of a plant in Indian languages, it sort of convinces me of its foreign origin.
I have started feeling that there are many weedy plants that are not included in books (as if they are literally weeds) !!  I hope some samaritan will help us by bringing out a book on these not-so-interesting plants.
