Beats me! I have been sitting on a picture of the same tree (probably the same specimen!) sent by Aarti Khale, taken at Jijamata Udyan. Scanned the web, but haven't been able to come up with anything worthwhile. Prashant Awale also sent a picture. Maybe Nandan would have some idea. |

On Flickr, I came across Cassia x nealiae (C. javanica x C. fistula) at http://www.flickr.com/photos/kikabr/274848636/ ... but some of the flowers have those 3 swollen stamens !! yet some are very identical to those here. Though it would mean "Rainbow Shower" plant, at Dave's Garden , the bloom colours are stated to be: Pink, Pale Yellow, White/Near White. I almost am strong with this Cassia x nealiae ...ELSE may be some day I must approach the head horticuturist of the garden. Request search for Cassia x nealiae on Flickr. |

Hey, thats a great discovery! I had read about this hybrid way back in 2005, when we put the Rainbow Shower Tree on FOI. However, at that time I did not come across the name Cassia x nealiae, and put it as Cassia fistula x javanica. I don't know if you have seen the images at hear.org So, it means that this hybrid has many forms - a pink and yellow form which we have on FOI and this nearly white one of yours. I remember reading that it is a sterile hybrid, and is propagated by grafting Also the leaves in diff hybrids seem to vary While the white variety has leaflets which are sort of pointed, the more colorful ones have rounded leaflets, as in the form which is on FOI. I would definitely go with Cassia x nealiae! --Last edited by tabish on 2008-05-11 10:40:21 -- |

Fantastic Tabish ... the hear.org link is very good enough to count this species as Cassia x nealiae. But I wonder about the syntax: Genus x species OK. I will learn about that later. Regards. |
