Hi,

I am interested in growing trees. I am from Trichy, Tamilnadu, South India. I have 12 acres of Land and I am collecting different varities of trees for my land just for hobby( 2 Saplings from each Varities). So far I am able to collect 110 Species. I want to collect trees as much as possible that's my aim. It has been a year since i started doing this so far so good.

For fruiting trees also I am collecting according to the varities (ex. I have collected 9 varities of Mango tree with each has 2 saplings)

My Land is Dry, but water facility is good. I have put dripping for the plants.

My Query is:

1.I have trees which i have not yet identified. I want to identify those trees. I can take photograph and send.

2.Will it be possible to get me trees which are not available in my land if possible little rare trees. Especially in Tamilnadu ( I can provide List of trees available in my garden)

I have to thank 'Flowers of India'. This site helped me to find most of the trees I have planted.

Hoping for good Response!!!!!!

Regards
Nathaniel

dear nathaniel,

there numerous nurseries in ooty whichh offer some very rare and exquisite plants.i seriously consider it among the top three places in india for plant hunting(the others being bangalore and kolkata)... but you will really have to hunt.

the agricultural show at PUSA in delhi hosted by the IARI will have many varieties of fruit trees to offer (mostly india's best).

also, i do not mean to be intrusive as it is your personal choice, but in todays time the need of the hour is 'sustainable' gardening. it is advisable to grow trees which are not dependent on artificial irrigation (such as you have suggested) as water is no longer considered a renewable resource (global water reserves have reduced by 50% in the past 60 years) and it seems times to come won't get any better. there are many tree varieties which perform very well without articial watering (bambax, ceibea, adansonia, acacia, emblica etc.) the best way to find out is to find varieties which can sustain themselves on your geographical location(taking factors such the rainfall and teperature into consideration). to save the environment going green alone is not enough, sustaining our environment for generations to follow is the need of the hour.

happy gardening

i hope you find what you're looking for.
