I think it would be very useful to have a subdivision named "General queries about plants".

I was looking at a rose plant today and saw this confusing structure.

It looks like leaves have grown out of a bud.

Is it a bud or a leaf?

Is it normal to have a structure like this, or is it some mutation. I do not see this any of my other rose plants.

I have taken the liberty to edit the message  and replace Koyembeduplants by Koyembeduplants1, as suggested by rv. The links work now, at least for me.

these aren't really leaves... it's just that the sepals have become overgrown... this is similar to a situation in which someone may have an extremely long finger with the rest of the fingers normal on the same hand... it's just a biological difference, not necessarily a mutation or disease... although it has been reported that sometimes new branches start from within the flower on roses ... overgrown sepals are also common feature in hybrid tea and grandiflora roses.
