Great identification and a beautifully clear picture!
Karnataka Ginger would have been simpler, but since you came up with this witty rhyming Carnatic curcuma, I think we will call it that.

PS: I think kurkum in Arabic stands for turmeric.

Dinesh, if you found this growing wild, it means you have found it in a location other than where it is believed to be found wild.

Oh yes ... its grows wild there ... I have seen them during my childhood too at Mangalore (that is my native place).

... And I have a feeling it is found in some places down towards north of Kerala.

Hmm... good information!
By the way, Karnataka Turmeric would be more correct than Karnataka Ginger - Curcuma species are generally called turmerics.
