Dinesh, there is a doubt here. We have put a flower picture, supposedly, of Dillenia pentagyna (Karmal) which was taken at the same place as your picture. Seems that the two are same (I think D. suffruticosa). However, there is big difference in the flower size of the two species.
D. pentagyna - 2-3 cm across
D. suffruticosa - 8-12 cm across
What was the size of your flowers?

Tabish (what you think is right), the flower you already have on FOI is D. suffruticosa.

Two references, including FOS:
(1) The Trees of Mumbai states:
... The leaves are shed in February and new leaves appear in June.
Flowering takes place from March-April on leafless branches.
The flowers are produced on raised tubercles with each fascicle having 5-10 flowers.
The yellow flowers bloom in large numbers and have mild fragrance. ...
(2) In FOS the photo shows many flowers on the fascicle.

That day, all the flowers of the plant that I photographed, were past their prime. They must be about 6-8 cm.

Regards,
Dinesh.
