Hi, I need you to identifiy a tree. I am a translator traslating a short story of R. Kipling. In one of his Indian short stories (In Flood Time) there is a tree mentioned by an old Musalman at the ford. He calls it
numah-tree. Here is the citation:
The mind of an old man is like the numah
-tree. Fruit, bud, blossom, and the dead leaves of all the years of the past flourish together.
The story is placed somewhere in North India, because the old man mentions that his son has sent him good tobacco from Laknau, where he works.
I have learnt quite a lot of Sanskrit, Hindi and Tamil, too, but I am not able to identify this tree (and it is also possible that Kipling actually invented it

). Maybe you Hindi etc speaking guys will be able to help me.
