This post is for resolving my doubt regarding Morinda pubescens

Morinda trees are blooming ... I came across two kind of pubescent Morindas.

I have put each one's photo (linking to more views on Flickr).
While I consider the first one to be M. pubescens, the other one I am not sure of, even though the leaves and buds are pubescent. The bark too, is vertically furrowed in both cases.

The main difference is in the flower:
the first kind has stamens exerted, and same in number as petals
the second, I do not know where the stamens are, I think what I see is a style with a forked at end.

The first kind is shown in FOS and The Trees of Mumbai.
The latter kind is seen in बहर (Bahar, book by Dr. Shreesh Kshirsagar) as well as FOI.

Many thanks.

Dinesh, I had a long discussion with Navendu Paage on  precisely this issue. It has confounded me too that we see stamens exserted sometimes, and sometimes we don't see them.
Some sources give M. exserta as a synonym of M. pubescens, where exserta refers to the anthers being exserted.
My feeling is that this species has many forms which were initially thought to be different species, but later combined into M. pubescens.
However, this is just my conjecture. Also, I remember Navendu telling me that the stamens being exserted or not, doesn't constitute an identifying feature of M. pubescens.

I will be very happy if an expert can throw more light on this issue.
