I'm told that this photo was taken in April in New Delhi,
thank you in advance for your assistance.

Ahh, this is interesting,  and thank you for your quick reply, Dinesh.

My first impression, looking at the opened flowers, was Camellia,
but the cluster of buds is unlike any Camellia that I know.
Yes, the buds are certainly rose-like,
yet the foliage does not seem to be like any Rose I know?

Yes, the first flower impression is indeed "rose"! However, I don't think there is any rose whose leaves are not toothed. Camelia was my guess too, but just doesn't fit with anything I know....

Thank you also, tabish.
I am happy at least that I am not the only one who is puzzled by this.
I was informed that the plant was about 6 feet tall,
and that is the only additional information that I can offer.

Thank you both for your assistance.
after doing further research today, I feel confident in identifying this plant as Pereskia grandiflora.

It is Pereskia grandifolia, a true cactus with normal leaves. I have photographs of some other species too. i.e. P. corrugata, P. belo

The correct name is Pereskia grasndifolia- not grandiflora. It is commonly known as "Rose cactus"

Thank you for that ID correction,      I do appreciate it.
There seems to be a good deal of confusion about the name,
I see many listings both ways.

I can see how it could go either way,
as it has both large flowers and large foliage.

In my search, I first located it under the name P.grandiflora,
and took it for granted that was correct,
I should have known better than to assume that.

Thank you again.

Great to see that the mystery is solved.
Now Zazu, are you interested in adding this image to the Flowers of India pool? If yes, do let me know the name of the photographer.

I'm sorry to have taken so long to reply to your question.

I tried to contact the individual who took this photo to get their permission
to add the photo to your database, but I have not received a reply from them.
